Don’t let Google’s SSL Update Affect your Business

Google released news in it’s recent update that Chrome and Firefox will put a security warning on all sites that are not secured with an SSL certificate. When a user fills out any form on your website, a “Not Secure” notice will appear. This is part of Google’s efforts to continuously improve user experience, limit spam and the possibility of stolen information.

What is it and do you have one?

Websites with an SSL certificate start with “HTTPS”, while sites without ones are “HTTP”. You will also notice a little padlock next to the URL in the address bar on your browser. This padlock and HTTPS encryption tells the user that the website they are visiting, and all information being transmitted on it is safe from hackers and spammers.

SSL certificates are common practice specifically for Ecommerce stores due to the fact that sellers are taking people’s personal and credit card information.

Furthermore, for SEO purposes installing SSL certificates on your website also helps get a better ranking in Google. As part of an update in December 2015, Google prefers HTTPS websites over HTTP ones.
